You have a responsibility to do your part to keep the roadways safe for yourself, other drivers, passengers, and those affected by traffic accidents.

– Stay alert – pay active attention to your actions and those of other drivers.

– Avoid assumptions – Don’t assume other drivers will do or what you think they should.

– Use turn signals – Always use turn signals in advance of a lane change or a turn.

– Buckle up your seat belt.  You are more likely to get injured in an accident not wearing a seat belt.  You can also be fined.

– Follow traffic signals – Respect yellow lights.

– Come to a complete stop at a stop sign or a red light even if no other vehicles are coming.

– Do not text when driving.  Split attention can kill you.

– Obey speed limits.  They are carefully selected for safety.

– Adjust driving for weather such as rainy, snowy, or foggy conditions, use extra precautions.

– Exercise patience.  Many accidents are caused by impatient drivers.

– Be predictable – Don’t make sudden stops or lane changes.

– Never Drive Under the Influence.

– Yield right of way

– Know where you are going.  GPS usage is best when not driving.

– Respect stopped vehicles

– Avoid distractions.

– Use headlights as needed, including rain or fog

– Share the road – all drivers deserve to be treated with respect.

– Maintain proper vehicle maintenance – Ensure that your automobile stays in good working condition including keeping fluids topped off, scheduled engine maintenance, tires have plenty of air, and the vehicle’s exterior lights are functional.
